American Public Media - The Splendid Table for September 1, 2012
Silvena Rowe speaks with Lynne Rossetto Kasper, host of Splendid Table. I want to speak exactly like her! Not just the accent (which I would fail at, honestly), but the forthright, direct way she talks that is still engaging and circuitous and full of vim and vigor.
Her direct and unfussy way of speaking is something that I miss a lot in my own writing, contorted as it has been by my time working in a law firm. And just qualifying statements to cover potential/real ignorances for fear of offense. Because conflict-avoidance is something I learned from way too young and I don’t do it well, but conflict and disagreement is not and should not be the end of the world. And that, more than anything, is what I love so much about Silvena’s way of talking.

Ocean’s Edge Table by Tyson Atwell
Atwell on his work:
The ‘Ocean’s Edge’ dining table is part of an ongoing body of work utilizing a CNC router to digitally sculpt oceanic waveforms moving across planar wood surfaces. The undulating surface that rises out of and dips into the center of the table was developed in CAD by ‘lofting’ a sequence of tide curves sourced from the entrance of the San Francisco Bay.
